It's that time of year again... the season of shopping, parties, gift wrapping and holiday chaos. If you're squeezing more than usual into your already packed schedule, eventually something has to give.
And often that thing is your fitness and nutrition.
Let's face it, sticking to a meal plan or workout schedule seems pointless amongst all the cookies, wine and get-togethers. Is there any point counting your veggie and protein servings when the boss is paying for dinner, drinks AND dessert at the office party?
And aren't you more likely to succeed with your health and wellness goals if you take a break for now - just until you have the time (and energy!) to do it right?
I get it.
Starting fresh is a comforting thought. The mental relief you feel now, in the middle of a busy time, is compounded by the thought that if you start fresh in January, it will be sooo much easier.
Unfortunately the truth is...
🎄There is no "perfect time" to work on your fitness and nutrition
🎄Taking a break is one of the most reliable ways to sabotage your plans for improving your health
🎄Instead of moving forward, or even staying level, you'll likely dig an even deeper hole to crawl out of in the new year
The result is more frustration, more depression, more guilt.
With my clients, I like to talk about the space between 0 and 10. This is the messy, chaotic, beautiful, imperfect perfection that is real life.
Between 0 and 10...
-> Something is always better than nothing
-> Expectations are flexible
-> We just keep going!
Here are two "intensity" dials that give examples of what actions you could be taking at each level.
What does YOUR 10 look like for each dial? What about your 1?
There are times when you'll feel confident increasing your efforts and taking on more, and there are times when you may need to dial it back.
The only goal is to avoid turning the dial off.
There is no guilt or shame in being at a 3 or 4. Simply check in every day and ask what CAN I do?
Instead of giving up on your fitness and nutrition goals this holiday season, try the dial method and let me know how it goes!
