Holiday Health Survival

'Tis the season for office parties! And while the festive spirit is contagious, you may have a few concerns about staying on track with your fitness and nutrition goals while visions of sugarplums (and other holiday goodies!) dance in your head.

But before you decide to give up on making any progress until after the Christmas season, check out my five favourite tips for enjoying the festivities without derailing your health journey:

  1. Strategic Splurges: Just like a well-thought-out work strategy, plan your indulgences wisely! I love using the "one plate rule" where you can choose whatever you want from the holiday spread, but only what fits on one (normal-sized!) plate.

  2. Mindful Munching: Practice mindful eating by savouring each bite and paying attention to your body's signals of fullness. Take your time, chew slowly and enjoy the flavours. This helps prevent overeating and allows you to enjoy festive treats without going overboard.

  3. Pre-Party Prep: You may be tempted to "save" your daily calories for the party, but showing up super hungry can backfire. Eating a balanced meal before heading out can help curb excessive snacking and lead to healthier choices when facing the party spread.

  4. Socialize and Salsa: Make the party about more than just food. Engage in conversations, hit the dance floor and participate in activities. The more you move and mingle, the less tempted you'll be by the snack table.

  5. Accountability Allies: Enlist a colleague or friend who shares your commitment to health. Having a buddy by your side can provide mutual support and make it easier to resist tempting treats.

Remember, the goal is not to deprive yourself but to find a balance that aligns with your wellness objectives 💕.
