Leaning in to Relaxation Mode

With the holidays often comes a whirlwind of activity - shopping, hosting, planning and celebrating. While the season is full of joy and togetherness, it can also feel overwhelming, which is why I encourage you to pause, slow down and lean in to the power of rest and recovery.

In fitness and in life, recovery isn’t just a break from progress; it’s an essential part of it.

Imagine a muscle after a workout. It doesn’t grow stronger during the workout itself but during the rest that follows. Without recovery, the muscle stays fatigued and never reaches its full potential.

The same applies to you.

Giving yourself permission to rest allows your mind and body to recharge, making you stronger, healthier and more resilient.

Another analogy I love is that of a bow and arrow. To propel an arrow forward, you first have to pull it back. The farther back you pull, the greater the power and distance the arrow will achieve. Resting and slowing down is like pulling the bowstring back - it sets you up for greater momentum when you’re ready to launch forward again.

This holiday season, I invite you to:

  • Savour the moments: Enjoy the time with loved ones, indulge in holiday traditions and soak in the warmth of the season.

  • Prioritize self-care: Take a walk in nature, read a good book by the fire or spend a quiet evening reflecting on the year.

  • Sleep and recharge: Good sleep is one of the best gifts you can give yourself - it’s vital for both physical and mental health.

Remember, rest isn’t laziness; it’s strategy.

It’s the pause that allows you to come back stronger, more focused and ready to tackle your goals in the New Year.
